The Process
Clay is first shaped into its rough form using either the wheel or just hands. When the piece has firmed up enough to hold its shape, it gets refined further, then left to slow-dry for a week or two. It then has to be fired in a kiln at 900-1000C before being glazed and fired again up to 1300C. This process takes anything between 4-8 weeks. Through the multiple steps and processes, some pieces succumb to the elements and never make it. Some come out unexpected but beautiful. The unpredictability of pottery is something that gives final pieces a sense of sacred joy to hold, touch and use. With love, Belle.
